Recruitment for Board Members

The Quarters Arts Society is seeking Board Members to serve on its Board of Directors. If you’re looking for an opportunity to apply your creative, technical, leadership and strategic skills, work with individuals with diverse backgrounds and contribute to the betterment of the Boyle Street community, this position may be the right fit for you!

Role:

The Board governs the affairs of the QAS, including the development of the organization’s long-term strategic vision. Board Members utilize their diverse perspectives to further QAS’s mission of facilitating arts-centered, citizen-led, community-building in the rich downtown tapestry of the Boyle Street neighbourhood, as well as provide opportunities for volunteers to develop leadership skills. The Board participates in deliberations and decisions in matters of policy, finance, personnel and advocacy. Board Members are expected to assist in developing and maintaining positive relations among the Board, committees, staff members and community to enhance QAS’s mission. They are also encouraged to attend community events on behalf of QAS to promote the organization and network.

The powers and duties of the Board include:

  • Responsibility for effective governance of QAS.

  • Providing strategic insight to QAS staff related to QAS’s vision, priorities, effective use of resources and more.

  • Establishing policies, rules and regulations for operating QAS and the use of its facilities and assets.

  • Serving on various QAS Committees, including policy and bylaw, finance, recruitment, communications, strategic planning, etc.

  • Approving an annual budget and all contracts for the Quarters Arts Society.

  • Other duties as needed.

Qualifications:

  • Ability to work in a collaborative environment, including the ability to build trust and relationships with various stakeholders.

  • Commitment to working in a socially inclusive environment responding with sensitivity and personal awareness to diverse needs.

  • Commitment to working for a more vibrant and just community in Boyle Street for all who call it home.

  • A passion for the arts and the role they can play in building community and working towards social change.

  • Background or previous experience in fundraising will be considered an asset.

  • Previous experience working in nonprofit boards and governance will be considered an asset.

  • Background in one or more of the following will be considered an asset: Law, social services, mental health, public health, and/or social enterprise, Indigenous studies, governance, and/or policy, accounting or finance. public policy development and analysis, web and/or graphic design.
